I don't remember whose idea it was to throw the bleachers in the bottom of the pool, but here is a shot of B-Team underwater. L to R: AW2 Powell, AW2 Britton, AMS1 Stewmon (Top), AE2 Wiley (Bottom), AME1 Carter, AW2 Slinkard.
Jumping from HC-16's H-1 "Huey" was a lot of fun for the insturctors as well as the students. However, most of the instructors preferred to stay with the boat crew (real USN Sailors back then) for reasons that are obvious in the next picture.
The Sailor sitting in the middle was the engineer for the boat crew. Whenever she was on the crew it was hard to get any of the instructors into the water or the helo.
SAR CAR 1: was the name of the 1970 Ford LTD I drove in the Demo Derby at Five Flags Speedway. I was the 4th car left of 15 or so. SAR CAR 2 was a '73 Lincoln Mark IV that I was too sick to drive when it came time. Our PR drove it and was pummeled in the first 15 seconds.
The Sharkpit (Instructor's Lounge) - 1989. L to R: AD2 Terrance Holmes, AW2 Bobby Powell, AW1 George Higgins, HM2 Rueben Riojas.
Myself and AT1 Grant Pouchert take a little time out to pose for the camera.
See ya...
